Sauze d’Oulx is a commune located in the province of Turin in piedmont Region in northern Italy and very close to the French border. It is located 80 km from the city of Turin in Val di Susa near the feet of Monte Genevris (2,536 metres). Sauze d’Oulx is a famous skiing resort in Alpine Italy. Along with the villages of Sestriere, Pragelato, Claviere, Cesana Torinese, San Sicario and Montgenèvre (in France), Sauze d’Oulx makes up Lia Lattea skiing area. Val Thorens: the highest ski area in France
Val Thorens, which is located in Tarentaise Valley in Savoie in the French Alps, is the highest ski resort in Europe at 2,300 metres. It is situated in Saint-Martin-de-Belleville commune in Savoie department. The resort is part of the three valleys (Trois Vallées) linked ski area (includes over 600 km of piste), which is the largest linked ski area in the world. The ‘purpose-built’ Val Thorens, being the highest resort, has snow cover throughout the year. The dominant summit of Val Thorens is Aiguille de Peclet (3,562metres).
However, skiing here in poor visibility can be difficult here owing to the fact that the terrain is located all above the trees.

The fresh ski resort at Courmeyeur
Courmayeur is an attractive little mountain town in Italy that is known for its fascinating ski trails and the sensational views over the Mount Blanc massif. It is located in the autonomous region of Aosta Valley in the Italian Alps close to the Franco-Italian border. It is located in the leeside of Mont Blanc, which is the highest mountain peak in Western Europe in the Graian Alps range and is crossed by the Dora Baltea. The resort elevation is 1,224 metres while the top elevation is 2,763 metres.
La Palud, the nearby village is the base station of the Funivie Monte Bianco, the cable car to Pointe Helbronner that links it to the Vallee Blanche Aerial Tramway going to the Aiguille du Midi.

Tignes: A hotspot for skiing
Tignes ski resort in Savoie in southeastern France in the western Alps close to the Swiss and Italian borders is one of the highest skiing spots in France and remains snow-covered throughout the season (skiing here remains closed only for a few weeks in May, June and September). Tignes turns into skiers’ paradise during the winter owing to the presence of Grande Motte glacier (3,456 metres high). Tignes, along with with Val d’Isère, forms part of the Espace Killy ski area (10,000-hectare in area). The resort elevation is 1,550 metres while the top elevation is 3,450 metres.
Tignes comprises several villages like, Val Claret, Tignes-Le-Lac, Le Lavachet, Tignes Les Boisses and Tignes Les Brevières.

Skiing at wooded Serre Chevalier
Serre Chevalier ski resort, which is located close to Parc national des Ecrins (Ecrins National Park) in the Haute-Alpes region of the southern French Alps, is one of the major skiing resorts in France. The resort is near the Italian border in the glaciated upper Durance Valley. Parc des Ecrins is located within the Ecrins Massif mountain range. Serre Chevalier organised the MTB French championships in 2008. Serre Chevalier is a friendly, good-value resort with a fine range of pistes to suit any skier or boarder. The presence of the tree cover ensures potentially good skiing even in poor weather.

Les Deux Alpes is one of France’s oldest ski resorts (second oldest after Chamonix, the location of the largest mountain in western Europe). It is located in Dauphiné area of southern Alps of France. Although the Pied Moutet area is smaller, the main skiing area ascends to the big glacier, making Les Deux Alpes one of the world’s highest resorts as well. The resort’s altitude is 1650 metres while the vertical drop is 2,298 metres. The highest lift is 3,568 metres.
