Chepelare is one of Bulgaria’s best skiing areas, occupying the tiny valley at the very center of the Rodoppi Mountain. The town here is pretty scenic, with the Chepelare River cutting right through it. Chepelare is located about two hundred and twenty two kilo meters away from Sofia, and about seventy two kilo meters from Plovdiv.
Chepelare is located just ten kilo meters from Pamporovo Resort, another famous ski resort in Bulgaria. Chepelare is a scenic mountain village with all the charms of nature – from the deep snow slopes, green meadows, mountain springs, venerable fir trees and a great number of other elements. There are a good number of excellent snow slopes here.
Chepelare is home to the longest ski run in Bulgaria. The infrastructure for skiing here is rather basic, however, is pretty good on maintenance and functionality. The high speed quad lift here is brand new though, with a capacity of over two thousand in one hour, and connecting Chepelare town with the peak of Mechi Chal.
The journey takes less than nine minutes, the total distance being about two thousand seven hundred. There are a few towrope and drag lifts that are smaller in size. The ski runs here are open from Dec, and runs usually through Apr, depending on the snow. The resort has a piste with lights for kids and novice skiers at the heart of the town.
