Sunday River ski resort is located in Newry in Maine in the United States. Sunday River Ski resort is one of the biggest and most popular ski resorts of Maine. In 2007, Sunday River along with its sister resort Sugarloaf were sold to Boyne Resorts by American Skiing Company for $77 million. Boyne then transferred it to CNL Income Properties of Florida under a lease-back arrangement. Sunday River was opened in 1959. Auburn in Maine is the nearest city to the resort. The resort receives an annual snowfall of 155 inches.
Skiing in Sunday River:
The resort features 132 trails spread across eight interconnected mountain summits and is linked by a network of 16 lifts (including 1 chondola, 5 quad chairs, 3 triple chairs, 1 double chair, 4 high speed quads and 2 surface lifts). The top elevation of the resort is 960 metres while the vertical drop is 710 metres. Sunday River has a total skiable area of 668 acres with the longest run measuring 5.6 km. About 36 percent of the runs is meant for the intermediates while 33 percent belongs to the beginners.

Sunday River Mountain Maine:
- White Cap:
It is located at the eastern edge of the resort. White Heat, an expert run and one of the steepest at Sunday River, is located on it. - Locke Mountain:
Original peak of the resort, Locke Mountain features mainly intermediate trails, namely, Cascades, Monday Mourning and Sunday Punch. The A half-pipe and the Rocking Chair terrain park are located in the lower altitudes of this mountain. - Barker Mountain:
Comprises runs like Three Mile Trail (for beginners), Ecstasy and Right Stuff. It also features a high-speed quad serving a variety of terrain. - Spruce Peak:
Risky Business and American Express are two intermediate while Downdraft is a short and steep difficult run located at Spruce Peak. - North Peak:

Has a mid-mountain Peak Lodge that offers food and beverages. Features the chondola lift that serves beginner and intermediate terrain. - Aurora Peak:
It features a blend of intermediate and difficult trails, which is served by a quad chairlift. - OZ:
Known for difficult and expert terrain. - Jordan Bowl:
Has terrain suitable for skiers of all ability levels. Lollapalooza, Rogue Angel and Excalibur are some of the trails here. - South Ridge:
South Ridge mainly serves beginner trails.
One must remember that out of all these peaks, only two can be topographically designated as ‘actual peaks’. White Cap and Locke Mountain are part of Barker Mountain while North Peak, Spruce Peak, Aurora Peak, OZ and Jordan Bowl are all part of Black Mountain.
