Hemsedal ranks amongst Scandinavia’s best and largest ski resorts. Also known as the Scandinavian Alps, some of the features of the area are steep and imposing mountains and a large variety of slopes. Located in southern Norway, the resort area is equidistant between the capital city of Oslo on the east and Bergen on the western coast. Norway is all about skiing opportunities and Hemsedal has some proud distinctions to its credit; it ranks as the second largest ski resort in Norway. It also possesses the largest number of millionaires per capita.
If you thought Hemsedal was all about cold winters and pure skiing, you are wrong. The area also offers a wide variety of activities during the summers as well. Some of the activities famous in this ski resort area during the summer include Bowling, Fishing, Horseback riding, Biking, Dog sledding on wheels, Moose safari, golf and many more activities.
However, the real Hemsedal comes alive in winters. Obviously, you have to be prepared to experience sub zero temperatures, of course. The Hemsedal Ski center has wide and well prepared pistes or snow covered slopes.
Hemsedal has two ski centers; the Hemsedal Ski Resort and Solheisen Ski Centre.
The Hemsedal Ski Resort offers skiing excitement to everyone at all levels. A first timer can enjoy the snow whereas an advanced skier will also find something for him or her. Snow conditions are good and the months from November to May are the best to enjoy the snow. The ski resort offers 24 lifts and 48 slopes ranging from easy green slopes to difficult black ones.
The children’s area ranks as the largest in Norway. It sets a perfect launching pad for the little ones or for that matter a beginner, who wishes to have an easy and comfortable start.
The Solheisen Ski Centre is a much smaller resort in the Grondalen valley. It has 3 lifts and 6 slopes. Solheisen is the perfect place for someone who prefers something quite rather than huge crowds.
Hemsedel is also famous for off-piste and cross country skiing conditions as also non-skiing conditions. There are chances you will fall in love with the place and in all probability want to extend your vacation. As regards to accommodation, you will have no issues as there are facilities aplenty. One can choose from luxurious cabins having several bathrooms to traditional cabins with common bath facilities. Alternatively, you can also stay at self catering cabins and apartments or guest houses or hotels, which are available in good numbers.

There are night clubs in the vicinity as well. The Fjellbekk Night club and Hemsen Night club are the famous ones in the area.
Traveling to Hemsedal is no issue at all. You can travel to the resort in your own car. Alternatively, you may use public services via bus and train. There are ferry services from Denmark and Germany whereas visitors from other countries reach the resort via air. The Gardermoen Airport, Oslo and Torp Airport Sandefjord are the nearest to the vicinity of the resort.
I would recommend you to visit the Hemsedel Ski Resort. However, let me tell you it is not just a Ski Resort it’s about all-round entertainment and also covers activities of the summer. If you visit the place during the period from June through September, you will be able to witness the summer excitement whereas the periods from November to May are the cold winter months. So go ahead and book a vacation to Hemsedel.
