When you think of snow, the easiest name that gets you is Europe. It’s not the fault of the continent if it lies to the extreme north of the northern hemisphere. And when it comes to snow, winter sports are what take control of your further thoughts. What can be fun enough more than playing, in the sun, with the snow, accompanied by your friends? It’s dangerous at its first few sights, but let me tell you, it’s worth trying. I am talking about Snowboarding – a sister winter sport to Skiing. The northern countries of Europe, like Austria, France, and Switzerland, are famous for the winter sports actively played up there. There are winter-sport competitions held in which people from the nearby countries arrive in huge numbers to participate.
Laax is one such heaven for snowboarding. It is a brother to the Flims snowboarding area, and comparatively larger in area. Both Laax and Flims are Swiss national treasures for snowboarding. Together, both of them form an area, regarded as the snowboard friendly place in Switzerland. Laax is particularly regarded by the snowboard lovers, who know about it. For beginners, not knowing about Laax, is perfectly okay. The Burton European Open is being held here since the last couple of times. Also, finals of the BRITS series are hosted at these places in the middle of the month of March. It has a full-fledged snowboarding resort and it is linked to Flims. This place is not included in most touring schedules, and hence, the slopes here seem nice, serious and smooth as if untouched. Also, no longer one needs to wait in the queues to get the lifts. Also, there are some good schools here for beginners in this pretty good place to learn. Suitable terrain in the back of the country, with gullies, big bowls, narrow chutes, tree pocked, runs, three half pipes, two boardercross courses and two terrain parks – all at Laax. Guys with good experience and a passion of adventure are suggested to try Vorab Pign and Crap Sogn Gion. These places have some of the best gullies. The café food at the latter one is better than people expect.
All and all, it’s a good experience having a snowboard play at Laax in Switzerland. Accommodation and services are widely spread out at suitable budgets, but I guess a little changes in budgets hardly count when it’s a matter of you enjoyment and fun.
