The age old sport of curling part 3

The curling sheet:  this is a playing surface which is defined by the world curling federation.  This federation decides the rules of curling. This sheet is made up of ice and is carefully prepared to be as flat as can be.  The level here is about one hundred and forty six to about one hundred and fifty feet. And in length, it is bout fourteen and a half feet to about sixteen and a half feet in width. When you have a target house marked at each end of the sheet. These houses consist of three rings which are made by painting or laying colored vinyl sheets which lay under the ice. The age old sport of curling part 2

The word curling actually first appeared in Perth in the year sixteen hundred and twenty. The preface has verses of a poem which is written by Henry Adamson.  The game was originally called the roaring game.   In the history of curling the stones were just flat bottomed river stones. These sometimes got notched and shaped. Also, unlike those of today, the thrower had very little control over the stone and they relied more on luck than skill and strategy.  In Darvel, east Ayrshire, the weavers relaxed by actually indulging in day long matches of curling.  The stones though were quite different.  The stones were heavy stone weights and they were taken from the weavers hap beams and then later were fitted with extra handle for the job at hand. At Prince Charles’ favourite ski resort

Fabulous skiing at the top of Europe

Zermatt (from ‘Zur Matte’ meaning in the meadow) ski resort, located in the German-speaking region of Valais canton (Visp district) in southern Swiss Alps near the Swiss-Italian border, is one of the nine resorts in the world that offer scope of skiing entirely at altitude higher than 2,200 metres. The top two T-bars at Zermatt remain open for the tourists during summer season. The resort elevation is 1,620 metres while the top elevation is 3,900 metres. The fresh ski resort at Courmeyeur

Courmayeur is an attractive little mountain town in Italy that is known for its fascinating ski trails and the sensational views over the Mount Blanc massif. It is located in the autonomous region of Aosta Valley in the Italian Alps close to the Franco-Italian border. It is located in the leeside of Mont Blanc, which is the highest mountain peak in Western Europe in the Graian Alps range and is crossed by the Dora Baltea.
