Fantastic skiing at Val-d’Isère
The commune of Val-d’Isère is located in Tarentaise Valley (some of world’s best ski resorts like Paradiski including Les Arcs, La Plagne and Les Trois Vallées including Courchevel, Meribel and Val Thorens are located here) in Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region in south-eastern France near the Franco-Italian border. Val-d’Isère is situated on the border of the Vanoise National Park, the oldest national park in France that was created in 1963 (Vanoise National Park is contiguous with Gran Paradiso National Park in Italy). The Face de Bellevarde, probably the steepest piste in the valley, was the venue of the men’s downhill race during the 1992 Winter Olympics. Val Thorens: the highest ski area in France
Val Thorens, which is located in Tarentaise Valley in Savoie in the French Alps, is the highest ski resort in Europe at 2,300 metres. It is situated in Saint-Martin-de-Belleville commune in Savoie department. The resort is part of the three valleys (Trois Vallées) linked ski area (includes over 600 km of piste), which is the largest linked ski area in the world. The ‘purpose-built’ Val Thorens, being the highest resort, has snow cover throughout the year. The dominant summit of Val Thorens is Aiguille de Peclet (3,562metres).
However, skiing here in poor visibility can be difficult here owing to the fact that the terrain is located all above the trees.

Tignes: A hotspot for skiing
Tignes ski resort in Savoie in southeastern France in the western Alps close to the Swiss and Italian borders is one of the highest skiing spots in France and remains snow-covered throughout the season (skiing here remains closed only for a few weeks in May, June and September). Tignes turns into skiers’ paradise during the winter owing to the presence of Grande Motte glacier (3,456 metres high). Tignes, along with with Val d’Isère, forms part of the Espace Killy ski area (10,000-hectare in area). The resort elevation is 1,550 metres while the top elevation is 3,450 metres.
Tignes comprises several villages like, Val Claret, Tignes-Le-Lac, Le Lavachet, Tignes Les Boisses and Tignes Les Brevières.

Skiing at wooded Serre Chevalier
Serre Chevalier ski resort, which is located close to Parc national des Ecrins (Ecrins National Park) in the Haute-Alpes region of the southern French Alps, is one of the major skiing resorts in France. The resort is near the Italian border in the glaciated upper Durance Valley. Parc des Ecrins is located within the Ecrins Massif mountain range. Serre Chevalier organised the MTB French championships in 2008. Serre Chevalier is a friendly, good-value resort with a fine range of pistes to suit any skier or boarder. The presence of the tree cover ensures potentially good skiing even in poor weather.
Serre Chevalier has a very big skiing field (about 250 km of slopes) and enjoys sunny weather almost throughout the year. The resort elevation is 1,200 metres while top elevation is 2,735 metres.
