Skiing at Geilo in Norway

Geilo is one of the most popular ski resorts located in the mountainous Hallingdal in Buskerud County in the Scandinavian country of Norway. The Hallingskarvet mountain range overlooks Geilo, which is bordered by the largest mountain plateau in Northern Europe, Hardangervidda. The resort elevation is 800 metres above the sea level while its highest point is 1,178 metres above the sea level. Geilo has three lakes, namely, Slåttahølen, Vestlefjorden and Ustedalsfjorden (the third being the largest). Skiing at Geilo: Skiing activities took off in Geilo quite earlier. St. Moritz ski resort is located in Engadin Valley in southeastern Switzerland, close to the country’s borders with Italy to the south and Austria in the east. Banff ski resort in the Rockies

Banff ski resort is located amidst the charming Rockies Mountains Banff in Alberta province in western Canadian, located 120km west of Calgary. It is situated in Banff National Park in the Rocky Mountains. Skiing activities took off at Banff in the early 20th century. Skiing at Banff is centred on Ski Norquay and Sunshine Village. The nearby Lake Louise is also a popular skiing spot. The place is also known for its elk. A ‘Heavenly’ ski resort

Heavenly ski resort is one of the largest ski areas located to the south of Lake Tahoe, a large freshwater lake (also North America’s largest alpine lake) in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and to the east of San Francisco in the USA. Heavenly is situated on the border between the states of California and Nevada with skiing bases on both sides. It is Tahoe’s higest resort with the peak elevation of 3,068 metres. The twin resorts of Morzine-Avoriaz

Morzine and Avoriaz are two neighbouring ski resorts in Portes du Soleil ski area, one of the world’s largest ski regions spread over in France and Switzerland (it has twelve resorts in all). Geographically, these two resorts are located in Haute Savoie region in southeastern France, close to the Swiss border. History: Avoriaz is located in the heart of Portes du Soleil (a region in the Alps). Avoriaz is located at altitude above Morzine, one of the skiing towns that had got its first lifts in the early 1930s. Fascinating skiing runs of Méribel

Méribel ski resort is located in Tarentaise Valley in the French Alps near the town of Moutiers. Méribel mainly refers to three adjacent villages in the Les Allues commune of the Savoie département of France called Méribel Centre, Méribel-Mottaret and Méribel Village. Méribel  hosted the events of Ice Hockey and Women’s  Downhill in the 1992 Winter Olympics. Méribel has Courchevel to the east and Les Menuires and Val Thorens to the west. Mottaret, on the other hand, is a few hundred metres above from Méribel. The ski resort is part of the Trois Vallées ski area. In the high ski resort of Tremblant Mountain (Mont Tremblant)

Tremblant is a premier ski resort located in Laurentian Mountains, which are situated north of Montreal (130 km) in the French-speaking Canadian province of Quebec. Mainly a ski resort, Mont Tremblant (meaning the ‘Trembling Mountain’) is also a favourite destination of swimmers and golfers. The peak has an elevation of 875 metres. Both Mont Tremblant and the resort are part of the Mont Tremblant National Park. Joe Ryan, an explorer from Philadelphia, had played key role in developing the beautiful Tremblant into a major resort area in the later 1930s. The resort also features traditional Quebec architectural reminiscence. Lowell Thomas, renowned radio broadcaster from the US, also helped popularize the resort.
