Skiing at Geilo in Norway
Geilo is one of the most popular ski resorts located in the mountainous Hallingdal in Buskerud County in the Scandinavian country of Norway. The Hallingskarvet mountain range overlooks Geilo, which is bordered by the largest mountain plateau in Northern Europe, Hardangervidda.
The resort elevation is 800 metres above the sea level while its highest point is 1,178 metres above the sea level.
Geilo has three lakes, namely, Slåttahølen, Vestlefjorden and Ustedalsfjorden (the third being the largest).

Skiing activities took off in Geilo quite earlier. Today, the ski resort features 20 lifts and 39 slopes of varying lengths and level.

Skiers’ paradise called Grindelwald
Grindelwald is one of the oldest ski resorts in Europe that dates back to the late 19th century. Grindelwald is located in Interlaken district within Bernese Oberland canton in the south-central Switzerland. Grindelwald village is located at an elevation of 1,034 metres above sea level in the Bernese Alps. The top elevation of the resort is 2,971 metres.
Skiing at Grindelwald:
Skiing season at Grindelwald begins from mid December to mid April. Skiers here can choose to ski either at Grindelwald’s First ski area or at the Kleine Scheidegg and Mannlichen sector that spreads into the neighbouring Wengen.

The twin resorts of Morzine-Avoriaz
Morzine and Avoriaz are two neighbouring ski resorts in Portes du Soleil ski area, one of the world’s largest ski regions spread over in France and Switzerland (it has twelve resorts in all). Geographically, these two resorts are located in Haute Savoie region in southeastern France, close to the Swiss border.

Avoriaz is located in the heart of Portes du Soleil (a region in the Alps). Avoriaz is located at altitude above Morzine, one of the skiing towns that had got its first lifts in the early 1930s. The magnificent terrain of Fernie ski resort
Fernie ski resort is one of the world’s best known ski resorts featuring ‘steep and deep’ terrain. The ski resort, located very close to the town of Fernie in the southeastern British Columbia in western Canada. The town is situated in the Lizard Range of the Rocky Mountains.
Fernie is known for its high rate of annual snowfall (the highest in any resort in the Canadian Rockies) of around 875 centimetres and also for the powder skiing.
Fernie ski resort was called by the name of ‘Fernie Snow Valley’ till 1997 when it was sold to Resort of the Canadian Rockies (RCR).

Mammoth Mountain ski resort (Mammoth in short) is located at Inyo National Forest lying to the east of Sierra Nevada mountain range in eastern California in the United States. Yosemite National Park is located to the west of Mammoth ski area. Mammoth is particularly a top skiing destination for residents of Southern California. Marvellous Winter Park ski resort
Winter Park ski resort located in Grand County in Colorado in the Rocky Mountains in western USA. The resort is just an hour and a half’s drive from Denver in Colorado. Winter Park is the nearest city to the ski resort. The top elevationof the ski resort is 3,680 metres while skiable area is 11.18 square kilometres. This resort has a history of being a laid-back spot although it has undergone a big makeover in recent times (Intrawest has played key role behind its development) with new lifts and an entirely new resort village at its base. There is a traditional resort base alongside the new resort village known by the name of Fraser, which gives a real ski town feel. Skiing at wooded Serre Chevalier
Serre Chevalier ski resort, which is located close to Parc national des Ecrins (Ecrins National Park) in the Haute-Alpes region of the southern French Alps, is one of the major skiing resorts in France. The resort is near the Italian border in the glaciated upper Durance Valley. Parc des Ecrins is located within the Ecrins Massif mountain range. Serre Chevalier organised the MTB French championships in 2008. Serre Chevalier is a friendly, good-value resort with a fine range of pistes to suit any skier or boarder. The presence of the tree cover ensures potentially good skiing even in poor weather.
Serre Chevalier has a very big skiing field (about 250 km of slopes) and enjoys sunny weather almost throughout the year. The resort elevation is 1,200 metres while top elevation is 2,735 metres.

Après-ski at Sestriere
Sastriere is a popular skiing resort in the Province of Turin in the Piedmont region in Italy. This alpine village, along with Pragelato, Claviere, Sauze d’Oulx, Cesana Torinese and San Sicario, and Montgenèvre in France, makes up Via Lattea (Milky Way) skiing area. Sestriere is located 17 km from the France-Italy border in the west. Sestriere is, in fact, one of Europe’s highest resorts. Sestriere was built by the manufacturers of the famous Italian car brand FIAT. The two hotel towers here, built by FIAT’s founder, Giovanni Agnelli way back in the 1930s stand as the symbol of Sestriere. Sestriere is one of the earliest resorts to have pioneered in snowmaking. During the winter vacations, population of this resort goes upto nearly 20,000.
