Åre is one of the biggest skiing destinations in North Europe, which was founded way back in 1909. It is situated in the Jämtland county close to the Swedish-Norway boundary. Östersund is the neÅrest city to Åre.
Åre has five different skiing centres besides a good number of great slopes including black pistes and easy slopes for the kids and beginners. The skiing Årea here is spread over an Årea of 4.7 squÅre kilometres.
There Åre also great slopes for snowboarding and telemarking. Heli-skiing is available, and there Åre 500km (311 miles) of cross-country skiing trails. The resort has a very good ski centre for families with young children.

Central Åre has the lift called ‘VM8:an’ featuring two slopes known by the names of Gästrappet and Lundsrappet (open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays).

Åre’s slopes Åre all located on the mountainsides rising up from the Åre Lake, although the ski centres Åre never interlinked. There Åre easy slopes for the beginners at Duved, Ullådalen and Åre Björnen. Duved has some excellent slopes for the intermediate skiers as well several steep runs offering fast skiing. Central Åre too has slopes meant for the intermediates but it is the black pistes and off-pistes here for the advanced skiers that make it famous (or infamous).
Åre, in fact, offers some of the most best off-piste skiing opportunities in Scandinavia. Tegefjäll too has excellent tree runs. The freestylers can try out their skills at the terrain park and halfpipe. There is also a ski school that trains skiers of all levels as well as ski rgear rental outlets here.
The skiing season at Åre runs from late November until late April. Snow cover here is reliable throughout the season.

Dippan at Hotel Diplomat Åregården is a popular place for après-ski activities. Country Club nightclub is another hot spot located in the same hotel. Besides, Bygget club has also been developed into a good après ski destination with three dance floors. - Eating out:
Åre has a quite a few good restaurants including Fjälllgårdens Matsal, located at the top of Åre’s cable car and serves Swedish cuisine. Bakfickan at Hotel Diplomat Åregården is another place for the foodies to consider. Broken American Bar & Grill, on other hand, offers comprehensive American-style grill menu.
