The Olympic flame will burn for the twentieth time in Turin, Italy. There are about twenty five hundred different athletes who are from more than eighty five countries. These compete for about eighty four gold medals in about fifteen different disciplines. Madagascar; which is a well known tropical island and Albania, for the first time, would be representing the ongoing appeal for winter Olympics.
The women’s team in Britain in the Women’s curling side is a strong forty people. The ceremony which is going to be held in the Olympics stadium here in Turin; has its opening ceremony that will begin at seven in the evening. This would then; mark the start for the sixteen day long competition. The captain of the English team, Simon Clegg, added that “winning a medal of any color would constitute success”.
The athletes have been training throughout the winter. The snowboard cross is similar to the moto-cross event. Although, this is on snow. The Snow board cross is going to debut this time in the winter Olympics and is one of Britain’s Medal hopes. Zoe Gilings will be representing the womens event for Britain on the seventeenth of February.
The winter Olympics are going to be split up into the Northern Italian city of Turin and then the Piedmonte Mountain area. This also includes all the ski resorts of Sestriere. These are Sauze d’olux and Bardonecchia.
There are indoor events of Ice hockey. Also, short track and long track speed skating and curling. The mountain resorts here will be hosting Alpine style and freestyle skiing along with snowboarding, bobsleigh, luge, skeleton and ski jumping.
Security was a big concern here so; a massive security operation has been organized with about fifteen thousand policemen to form the security. The operation costs about one hundred million dollars.
The slogan of the game is “passion lives here”. Most of the glitches have been fixed and venues have finished being readied. Even the roads; have been painted. The grandstands have been painted as well and the signs have been put in place. A lot of challenges have come up; but these are just the teething problems which happen before any big event. Although this does seem easy on the organizing committee.
The ticket sales have been picking up. The people here in Turin seem to embrace the entire spirit of the winter Olympics, and they seem to be taking it in good spirit even though it is probably causing them a lot of inconvenience.
The red flags that are here in Turin are up for the Olympics and these mark the official routes along with the advertising hoardings that give the winter Olympics its theme. Although apart from this; there is not much else that suggests that the winter games are going to be held here. The mountains here have been decorated with hang out banners that the residents have come out with. The banners are themed on welcoming the games.
The weather so far is juts amazing; there is a fair forecast of snowfall. This however would surely be a miracle in disguise for the many organizers of the Olympics event at Alpine sports. The winter Olympics will start with the mens twenty kilometer biathlon. The opening ceremony of this event is on Friday and the games will be beginning on Saturday.
